Information - Scabies in the Community

Key points about scabies:
  • Scabies (waihakihaki; mate māngeongeo riha ) is a contagious skin condition that causes a very itchy rash.
  • The rash is caused by an allergic reaction to a tiny mite that burrows under your skin.
  • It’s easily spread between people through close skin-to-skin contact or shared bedding or clothing and won't go away without treatment. There are treatment options to help with the itch also.
  • Everyone in your household should be treated at the same time, even if they don’t have symptoms.
  • You’ll also need to wash all bedding and clothing in hot water at the same time.
  • If your child has scabies, keep them at home until at least one day after treatment with scabies cream or lotion.
  • It can be difficult to identify and equally difficult to feel as though treatment has been successful as the itch can last up to 6 weeks following treatment!!
  • There are a number of services in the community who can support your whanau to access treatment for free or very low cost: your GP team, pharmacies (chemist) and the school nurses.

SAFER SCHOOL ROADS

From June, the speed limit outside our school will drop to 30km/h during busy drop-off and pick-up times (8:00–9:00am and 2:45–3:45pm). At other times, the normal speed limit will apply.
There will be a mix of electronic and static signs. As soon as the signs are installed, the lower speed limit can be enforced, so please keep an eye out.
